The VII Classics Mare Nostrum Trophy had this year three races: the Puig Vela Clàssica Trophy in Barcelona (July 12 to 15), the Illes Balears Clàssics regatta in Club de Mar Mallorca (August 16 yo 19) and the Copa del Rey Panerai, which finished this past Saturday.

The Corsaro II's skipper, Simone Giusti, Commander in the Italian Navy, was very satisfied with their success, saying that "we sailed in three different regatta fields and in all three our yacht proved her potential. This victory represents the recognition of our crew's hard work, sometimes subject to many changes, since they are juniors in the Italian Navy and are going through a training period".

Corsaro II, a yacht built in 1960 and based in La Spezia (Italy), ended up fourth in Barcelona, first in Palma and ninth in Mahon.

Giusti mentioned Corsaro II as a true school boat in the Italian Navy and added that this win is like "candy" for his young crew. "This is our first win in the Mare Nostrum and our intention is to keep participating next year. It will be a new challenge. However, it all depends on the protocols of our country's Ministry of Defense".

The other winners said they feel as satisfied, they consider this trophy gives "prestige" to the classic Spanish regattas and is an encouragement for the crews.
