The exhibition, which is part of the cultural activities in the XXIII Illes Balears Clàssics regatta, has 14 pieces taken in different regattas within the international classic and vintage calendar.

Club de Mar-Mallorca opened today the exhibition "Mar de madera" (Wooden sea), by the prestigious photographer Nico Martinez, winner and 5 times finalist in the Mirabaud Yacht Racing Image contest. The collection, which is part of the cultural activities in the XXIII Illes Balears Clàssics regatta, will stay until nexr August 19 and has 14 pieces in black and white taken in different races within the classic and vintage calendar.

Martinez, also the official photographer of this competition, said that the black and white/sepia choice intends to creat these vessels' "original" feel, all of which are "unique jewels of the maritime patrimony built in wood and, in most cases, prior to 1950".

The pictures, of great plastic beauty, portray marine landscapes and scenes on board the vessels, taken from the sea and from the air. "in some pictures you can appreciate the effort of the sailors and in others I chose to focus on the grandeur on the marine surrounding", explains Martinez.

Manuel Nadal, Club de Mar's commodore, also present in the opening along with the Club's president, Borja de la Rosa, said that the Illes Balears Clàssics regatta is a competition committed with ocean culture and preservation of the maritime culture outreach. "Nico's photographies embody these two features of our regatta beacause we see in them both the beauty of these vessels and the hard work of their crews".
